🐋 Dolphins & Whales Year-Round

Large resident pods of dolphins make it possible to encounter them throughout the year. The most commonly seen species include:

  • Spotted Dolphins

  • Bottlenose Dolphins

  • Spinner Dolphins

  • Common Dolphins

  • Roughtooth Dolphins

Other species occasionally make special appearances, adding to the magic of each outing.

🌍 Humpback Whale Seasons

Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula is one of the few places in the world where humpbacks arrive from both hemispheres to breed and give birth.

☀️ Weather & Ocean Conditions

  • Best weather seasons for tours: Mid-December through mid-April, and July through September.

  • Green Season (April–December): This doesn’t mean it rains all day—it usually brings refreshing late-afternoon showers, with many sunny mornings. Some days have more rain than others, but tours are rarely canceled.

  • Our boats are stable and secure, and storms in this area typically pass quickly.

🐬 Every Day Brings a New Adventure

No two tours are ever the same. Some days we find dolphins and whales close to shore; other days, we travel miles offshore into the pelagic zone, where mega pods of thousands of dolphins await. Every tour is guided by the ocean, the weather, and the animals themselves.

🐬 On calmer days, we may venture farther offshore.
🐬 On rougher days, we usually stay closer in—where our beloved Pantropical Spotted Dolphins (our “Homeboys”) often play. Sometimes they spread into smaller pods, other times they join forces into massive super pods.

🐋 Whale & Dolphin Encounters

  • Prime Humpback Whale season: late July through October, when humpbacks stay close to shore or around Caño Island.

  • Dolphins are always nearby—and often interact with the whales, especially curious babies who love to play.

Every encounter is unique. Some days dolphins are exuberant and playful; other days, they rest quietly but still allow us to be near. Humpback mothers sometimes bring their babies right up to the boat, while first-time moms may keep a protective distance.

💙 Our Promise of Respect

We never force interaction. The most magical moments happen when dolphins and whales choose to come to us—and when they do, the connection is unforgettable.

📌 Cancellation and Refund Policy

Our tours are guided by nature, and while we cannot guarantee specific sightings or conditions, we always do our best to create a safe and magical experience.

  • Cancellations made 4 days or more in advance receive a full refund, minus a $25 service fee per person.

  • Cancellations made with less than 4 days’ notice are non-refundable.

  • Because every day on the ocean is different, we cannot guarantee sightings. Most tours do encounter dolphins and whales, but the ocean always offers unique experiences.

  • Refunds are not provided if sightings are limited, if the ocean is rough, or if it rains. Our tours run rain or shine, and dolphins and whales live here year-round.

  • If we determine it is unsafe or impossible to operate the tour due to severe weather or very rough seas, you will receive a refund minus the $25 service fee per person.

  • If the tour is canceled due to mechanical failure or any reason not related to weather, a full refund will be given.

  • Partial refunds are not provided if a tour must return early due to illness or any other guest-related reasons.

✨ We thank you for understanding that these policies help us continue protecting the dolphins, whales, and ocean we all love.
